Dear Colleagues,
Welcome to the 16th Symposium Mammographicum, due to be held in Harrogate from 1st - 3rd July 2012. The Organising Committee have created what promises to be a stimulating enjoyable programme, which will include something for everyone.
We are delighted that Professor Amanda Ramirez has agreed to deliver The Sir John Stebbings Lecture on the very topical subject of informed choice. Professor Peter Johnson, Chief Clinician at Cancer Research UK, will present on chemotherapy and gene selection. Other highlights include a session dedicated to the management of cancer in different age groups, including pregnant women and older people, an update on new technologies and digital imaging, and a session on risk and behaviour including nudge. Professor Sarah Pinder, Kings College London, will discuss the problems encountered with over-diagnosis and overtreatment and Professor Sunil Lakhani, University of Queensland, will talk about stem cells and metastases and on pathology from axilla. Cutting edge advances will be discussed in the new technologies session and the hot topics session will ensure we cover any new developments taking place.
The dedicated session for physicists proved so popular during our 2010 conference, that we have decided to repeat this again. This will be led by Professor Ken Young (Royal Surrey County Hospital) and will be held on Monday 2nd July.
The scientific programme includes submissions presented in either oral or poster format, with prizes for the best entries, and I encourage you to “get your thinking hats on” and submit an abstract iby Friday 2nd March.
New for 2012, mindful of the credit crunch, the Organising Committee will be offering group reductions for every 5 confirmed registrations from any one institution, you will receive a sixth registration free. There are also significant savings to be made on the early bird rates, so I encourage you to book before 14th April 2012 to take advantage of these savings. Watch this site for further details.
Yours sincerely

Dr Anna Murphy
